NEW ZEALAND ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR OFFICIALS
Accent Learning is a partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, delivering the New Zealand English Language Training for Officials (NZELTO) programme.
Participants strengthen their English language proficiency through an intensive programme of study related to themes relevant to their countries’ development. The core aim is to improve English language skills and build enduring connections between New Zealand and participating countries.
Participants improve their English and their professional knowledge through a unique combination of classroom-based learning with memorable cultural and professional experiences.
Themes include: Education, Good Governance, Strengthening Resilience, Disaster Risk Management, Agriculture, Security, Trade and Renewable Energy.
The NZELTO programme has been operating since 1992 and in that time over 2000 officials have successfully participated in the programme.
Many former scholars have gone on to become leaders in their communities, industries and, in some cases, their countries.
The NZELTO Programme is not all hard work! There is also time for fun, relaxation and experiencing the Kiwi way of life. Throughout the many years of the programme, New Zealanders have offered friendship, conversation practice, outings and other activities for the officials. They have welcomed officials into their homes and given them a taste of family life. This voluntary community support from these friends of NZELTO is an important part of the success of the programme and many lasting friendships have been made.
NZELTO CONVERSATION VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME
Accent Learning organises conversation partners for the participants while they are studying in Wellington. It is a welcome opportunity to spend time using English.
People who would like to volunteer for the NZELTO Conversation Volunteer Programme, please contact us. You will receive more information and there will be a training session before starting.
Accent Learning keeps participants posted about events in Wellington and organises some activities and social events for scholars and volunteers.

HOME STAY HOSTS
During Part I of their NZELTO programme in Napier and Nelson, scholars are hosted by homestay families. Through this personal contact, scholars are introduced to New Zealand living styles, enjoy New Zealand home cooking and experience the attractions of the local environment. Many enduring friendships have been formed between hosts and scholars.
