The New Zealand Curriculum

Accent Learning bases all support for schools on the direction for learning set out in the New Zealand Curriculum. Advisers understand the vision and principles which underpin the NZC and work with teachers to integrate the values and key competencies into the learning areas in their classroom practice. The focus is an effective pedagogy that requires teachers to inquire into the impact of their teaching on their students.

Many schools in the Greater Wellington region are at the point of designing and reviewing their existing school curriculum. They are seeking ways to address the unique needs of their students and community. This requires a clear understanding of the intentions of the curriculum as well as the values and expectations of the community.

The implementation of National Standards for numeracy and literacy is a focus for primary schools to equip their students to successfully access all aspects of the curriculum.

For secondary schools the focus is on the Standard Alignment Review, its implications for learning area support, and ensuring students leave school with worthwhile qualifications.

There are several levels of support, including a number of clusters for principals and senior managers that are vehicles for discussion, debate, trialling new ideas and reflection.
