The most memorable experience that we had in our fifth week in Wellington was an impressive ceremony to welcome Laos’, Cambodia’s and Myanmar’s New Year at the St John’s Church Hall.

Many kinds of special traditional foods of Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Mongolia,  prepared by all of ELTO and others, were displayed on the table for dinner. Our friends from Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar looked absolutely gorgeous in their beautiful traditional dresses. All of us really enjoyed many sweet songs and lovely dances performed by our friends especially the fabulous melodies of Myanmar songs and the special way the Myanmar people welcome the New Year.

And the most impressive image for me is Annie’s lovely daughter in the Vietnamese traditional dress (ao dai). It reminded me the Tet holiday in my home country as I have often worn the traditional dress in the first day of New Year. In my opinion, the first day of New Year is always a vital day not only for each individual country but also for each family in the world. Actually, we had the New Year’s special first day in Wellington with many friends from other countries. This day will be one of many unforgettable memories for all of us.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to every ELTO from Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar!
